Creative Arts Therapies Group Services.
Dealing with issues or life changes can feel isolating. We often hide our issues or difficult experiences from our loved ones or from society.
Creative Arts therapies can provide a therapeutic group process that can be reassuring to enter into with people who are experiencing similar issues to each other. The group members do not need prior creative skills. The creative arts therapist provides a safe and confidential space where the group members can find support in creating, listening to and sharing their experiences with each other and with people who understand their story. Participating in a group like this can facilitate healing and growth, build social skills and self esteem for it’s members and the group as a whole.
We provide two therapy services for groups. Art Psychotherapy and Eco Art therapy. These can be facilitated at the centre or as an outreach project. They can be commissioned by a service or organisation that wants to provide a creative therapeutic intervention for their particular client group or issue. The group sessions can be focused on issues such as bereavement, anxiety, depression, recovering from past traumas, or for any group of people experiencing a similar issue.
Self Care for Health Care Professionals; The Creative Container
Rebecca O’Connor provides a third group service that is not a therapy group session. It is The Creative Container, a self-care workshop for qualified or training health care professionals, eg; doctors, nurses, occupational therapists, psychologists, psychotherapists and counsellors, social workers. The Creative Container was developed and created by Rebecca in 2012 and since then she has been running the workshops to support the growing need for more self-care in the caring professions. Anyone working with vulnerable people and in these pressurised professions needs a space in which to reflect, process and share to aid their self-care, prevent burnout and vicarious trauma which can lead to depression and other mental and physical ailments.
The Creative Container is a specially developed self-care workshop for healthcare practitioners to process their clinical work through the use of creative reflective practice. You do not need prior art-making skills. In a facilitating, safe and confidential environment lead by Rebecca, an Art Psychotherapist, individuals in a caring profession can find support in creating, reflecting and sharing issues and experiences with each other. The workshop can promote understanding, meaning and experiential learning for individuals and in an organisation context can benefit team building and support for each other. The Creative Container workshop can be tailored to and commissioned by an individual group or organisation for their employees or by their employees. The workshop provides an opportunity for self-care. reflective practice, team building and CPD hours.
